How Long is a Session?
A face-to-face session usually lasts 50 minutes. Email exchanges, and sometimes phone sessions, can involve less time.

What if I can't make a session?
Agreed regular meetings are always available to you during my work periods. I will give you plenty of notice if I go on holiday (usually up to a total of 12 weeks holiday a year). Only in an emergency will I cancel at short notice. I expect you to pay for all other sessions. If you can't attend, I will try, but not guarantee, to offer you a replacement session at a time you can make. I will only charge for the replacement session if the change is made at the last minute.

How Long Does Treatment Last?
The time psychotherapy takes depends on the nature of the difficulties you want to work with. Working with me, you can have an open-ended relationship that isn't bounded by a preconceived notion of how long it should take. You can take as much time as you need.

How Do We End Therapy?
You can leave when you choose, but sometimes relationships can end in fight or flight, which leaves us with unresolved emotional hurt. In psychotherapy, we try to end with care. Together we try to understand what endings mean to you, how you find them difficult and ways to manage feelings about loss and separation. It's good to be patient and thorough with all this. It's your therapy.

Why Phone and Email Sessions?
Not being able physically to get to a session need not prevent you having therapy. The possibility of phoning or emailing increases the flexibility of our contact. If you have to travel for work, if you are on holiday when I am working, if you are unwell but can use the phone or a computer, even if we usually meet face-to-face you don't have to give up your session. Sometimes, phone sessions or email exchanges can provide additional support when needed. If you are too far from Bristol to travel to my consulting rooms, we can even meet regularly over the phone, plus email.

In general, once we have started therapy, minimising interruptions is something you will come to appreciate, and supports the quality of our work. But these are options for you to consider - to have if you want them.

Fees
My fees are up to £50 per 50 minute session, pro rata for shorter sessions. I charge by the session, and like to be paid at the end of each session.

Ethics and Standards
I am a registered UKCP practitioner, abiding by their ethical code of practice. My professional body is there to protect you and will support finding the best response to any problem you and I haven't been able to resolve between us.
